FUN WITH AUSSIE SLANG!! lols~
Gosh, this is gonna be such a random post, but I'm completely amused so here I go.

I was talking with [info]haengbokyunho and it made me remember how strange all us Aussies are hahah. Like how loud we are and how laid-back we are and how crude we are lols. And we have the WEIRDEST slang.. seriously. I'd never really thought about it before, because when you spend your life growing up here it just seems normal. It's only when you talk to people from overseas that you realise 'wow they have no idea what I am talking about! Is that just used in Australia?!''

SO LEMME RANT ABOUT AUSSIE SLANG. XD

And so I realised that with a lot of our slang there are some general patterns with it. When it comes to names we always add a "zza" sound to the end. Like:

Sharon = Shazza

Darren = Dazza

And I remember my SAC teacher in highschool had the last name of "Barrett' but we all called her "BAZZA" lmao. Seriously, what is with that???? Australians are weird!!!! lol

And then for normal words we always add an 'ie' or "ey" sound to the end of it! For example:

Costume = Cozzie
Lipstick = Lippy
Biscuit = Bikkie
Vegetable = Vegies
Christmas = Chrissie
Present = Prezzie
Attractive person = Hottie
Barbeque = Barbie
Mosquito = Mozzie
Cockroach = Cockie
Someone who lives in the bush = Bushie
Very = Bloody
Bad quality = Dodgy/Bodgy
Breakfast = Brekky
Toilet = Dunny
Football = Footy
Chocolate = Chocky
Kindergarten = Kindie
University = Uni
Postman = Postie
Lie = Porkie

NEED I GO ANY FURTHER!!!!! All "ie" / "y" sounds.... Oh Australians, why are we so strange? Where did that habit come from??? XD

And I have no idea if these are just Australian saying, but they are so common to me and only now do I realise how STRANGE they would sound to someone else!

- No worries!
- I'm can't be stuffed going this arvo...
- That surfie is wearin budgie smugglers!
- I was so bloody pissed off my face yesterday!
- Have you put the snags on the barbie yet?
- How bodgy were those Tim Tams!
- That bloke's acting is shit house!
- Yesterday my engine carked it!
- I'm going to chuck a sickie so I can go to the concert!
- That dipstick tried to crack onto me!
- How feral was the guy in sunnies last night!
- Good onya for giving it a burl!
- Those bloody journos are back taking a squizz?
- Did you just knock me for telling a porkie?

HAHAHHA I have fun with those XDDDD. When I look over them I realise how weiiiiird they sound! I bet they wouldn't make much sense at all to non-Aussies. No wonder we get embarrassed all the time when people from overseas want to know our culture! XDDD

AND to end this Aussie rant, I found one of my fav Aussie beer ads on youtube. Damn, this ad was amazing. People actually running in a field as beer being swallowed into the stomach.... AMAZIIING!!! I remember when this used to be shown on TV. I would automatically stop whatever I was doing just to watch it. I remember I even paused what I was doing on LJ to watch it. XDDD

I swear, if you counted the ads that are on our television the most often it would be car ads or beer ads. Seriously. It can get annoying, but when they are impressive or funny then I love them. :D

ROFLOL♥ Actually, I only got some-most of these. But then I'm an Asian-Aussie so :x

Though, I have some friends who go "computer=compy" and my neighbour ALWAYS say, "hey connie, how's it goin'" whenever he sees me >.>;

HAHAH OMG REALLY!!! XDDD

Yeh that miiiiiight have something to do with it, but I dunno. I guess a shit load of people in my family have all been raised in Australia for several generations so I'm used to hearing it more. Either that or I watched too many bogan-styled TV shows when I was growing up, hahah!! Like in highschool we were forced to watch the film "pubery blues" and omggggg the slang in that was so embarrassing! People went around calling people 'moles' (I dunno if that's the official spelling) to supposedly insult them. I was laughing so much.

Oh, is the neighbour speech weird for you? Isn't that the common greeting here? XD. I love how if you're walking past strangers in the streets even if you don't each other you'll still greet them and stuff. XD

.... i spent the last few days watching nothing but Skins and I've no idea if British and Aussie lingo are the same but...

LOL o.o

so many 'ie/y' @.@;;;
Fiona[info]fi_chan on March 12th, 2009 02:48 am (UTC)
Oooh Skins!!! My bro really loves that show and he always makes me watch random bits in it that he finds funny. I really need to steal those off him sometime and watch it properly... ^^;;

AHhhh well...... sometimes it can be similar but not really. The British have their own set of lingo hahah. Sometimes I won't understand their lingo at all, ya know? XD

But the funny thing is that some of our strange lingo originated from Britain. Really tiny areas in Britain actually... Coz the convicts that were first sent to Australia came from those areas I guess and that's how our slang originated! Stuff like 'bloody oath' and 'fair dinkin'... but not many people say those things anymore unless they are from the really old generation. ^^;;

Skins is loveeeeeeee 8D~ *addicted*

But ooh, yeah O: My one bestie lives in Australia too and he tells me that it's different too. But... for someone who's never lived there... it... the only way I can tell the difference is by accent @_@ but it's still so cool with each XD

But ooooh, the old prisoners thing. I remember learning about that o:

I wanna move to Australiaaaaa 8D~

I remember one of the characters played that little kid in "about a boy" with hugh grant, right? It freaked me out when I saw him coz all I could picture was the little boy he played with bad hair LOL!!

Oh yehhh I remember you had a bestie here! But yeh, there are definitely differences. Like we call red-headed people "Ranga" whereas in Britain it's "gingah" (however u spell it) so in ways its similar but totally dissimilar hahahah! I love hearing British slang..it sounds interesting. :D

Yeh... It's funny when you think about it that a lot of people's relatives were convicts sent here as punishment. XD

Woooah why would you wanna move here when you can have fun with that cool snowwww! <3
sm;)e[info]melyxcious on March 12th, 2009 03:03 am (UTC)
Hahaha, yeah! Nicholas Hoult :D He's like.. the ring leader out of the cast and is just so freaking evil in the first season. & like.. he's so pale with the dark hair and those gorgeous blue eyes of his and... yeah *G*... But that's him LOL XD;;; You should see him kissing boys. It's... so hot @.@

*nod* hahaha, yup, I do :3
And ooooh. Ranga? Where does... ranga come from... red head and... lols this is fun XD;;; Gingah. HMM... lols is wanker the same as it is over there? XD;;;

LOL! That's pretty funny when you think about it :x

Australia is interesting. It's different than here, kinda, and totally new. Plus, no relatives there at all XD;;;
Fiona[info]fi_chan on March 12th, 2009 03:15 am (UTC)
LOL!!!

You should see him kissing boys. It's... so hot @.@
I HAVE SEEN HIM DOING THAT HAHAHHAHAHAH!!! My bro showed me lots of stuff in it coz he was like 'ahhh he's so hot' LMAO but I was just disturbed coz that's when I realised it was the dude from About A Boy. XD

OHHH YES wanker is definitely the same over here. I love that word! It's used a lotttttttt.

AHH I see, I see! Well the no relatives thing would definitely be a pro rather than a con. ^_____~

And the history of Ranga is one that is interesting haha. The power of mass media lol. It's relatively new... It started in a crazily popular comedy show here called "Summer Heights High"... and from then on everybody has been using it. Mothers even wrote in to the guy who wrote it and said her son was now being bullied at school and called a Ranga.. LOL!!! Here's a clip for you! I love that show soooo much! I wish it had a second season!!!!! T____T
